My family went to a ballpark to watch a professional baseball game after a long time
! (In fact, I cannot recall the last time we did...) My son got a kind of complimentary ticket from his baseball club, so this time he didn't accompany us for the first time. Well, he's grown up very fast to be apart. We thoroughly enjoyed the game, even though our favorite team, Softbank Hawks, failed to come off the winner. After the game, my husband and son were supposed
to have dinner with my son's teammates and their parents. I'm going to whip up dinner and watch an exhibition of figure skating on TV.

after a long time というのは、かなり前に辞書で学んだ表現だったのですが、
It doesn't sound natural to say "after a long time". You might say "our meals appeared after a long time" for example, if you had to wait a long for dinner. You could also say "after a long absence" but that sounds very formal.
