How can Japan improve its international image?
key words: presentation skills, international aid, immigrant
I believe that Japan has played an important role in the world, but somehow its efforts are not that recognized by other nations. I'd like to point out three factors to concern.
First, Japan is not good at expressing itself. It is said that Japanese people are not good at showing off their strong points to others, and that might be because Japan is a conservative nation and citizens regard humility as important. Japan needs to speak out about what it has done. Polishing presentation skills is a must to become one of the leaders in the world.
Second, as a developed nation, Japan should be more active to support countries in need. Japanese influence in technology is spreading all over the world today, and its industry is now in center of the world. Unless we do more to bring our technology to the world, other nations may not see us helpful.
Third, accepting immigrants can be a key to make a good impression on others. Japan is still a closed-door nation in a way, pointing out security problems. Because we live in an international society, avoiding worldwide issues may not be a good attitude. I'm sure there are a lot of negative impact on Japanese society, yet showing a willingness to accept immigrants can improve its international image.
By opening to the world, some of the traditions will be at risk. Having said that, we need to change our attitude or perspective to become a nation which cannot be ignored.
