松下クリスさんの英語解説を、ディクテーションしています。

★delegate　　委任する
"Delegate" pronunced with a clear "a" sound at the end is a verb, "delegate something," give someone a part of your job" or "tell them what to do. "Delegate" with the stress on the first syllable and the last syllable becoming closer to "schwa," ( シュワッ!? ) is a noun. And in that case, it's a person who has been delegated. It's similar to "representative."

何度聞いても シュワッ と聴こえていた部分、ホントに「シュワッ」だった!?
schwa ... 曖昧な母音
ほほ〜、勉強になりました。今度サークルの時にでも使ってみようかな。
いきなり「Is that シュワッ？」って。
delegate 、なんと強勢の位置によって品詞も意味も変わるんだとか。
ややこしい。どうやって覚えたらいいの!?
耳を澄まして聞きましょう。もし、
ダレ!?ゲイって!?　のように聞こえたら、動詞「委任する」の意。
ダレが!?　だったら、名詞「代理人」の意。
ダレ？芸者？ "delegation"　だと、名詞「代表団」の意。
苦肉の策で覚えるしかありません。


★what they're paid for　　彼らが給料をもらっていること　
The phrase "what you're paid for" is often used to refer to your responsibilities and duties. You can also use it in the negative to say, "I'm not paid for that," "I'm not paid to do that." meaning that's not my responsibility. You can also use it to tell another person who's encroaching on approahing(?) your territory that they're not paid to do that. That is not part of their duty. It's your responsibility.

1) enroach ... 侵食する、侵略する

I'll pay for the tickets.
のように、お金を支払うという意味で使われるだけでなく、こうした責任問題にまで使える表現なんですね。


★shoulder　　背負い込む
In this sentense, Takahashi uses the word "shoulder" as a verb. It usually means "carry" or "take up" or "bear." In the military, one of the orders when the soldiers are parading shoulders operating is "Shoulder arms!" it means "put your gun up them down and up against your shoulder."

In the military, 以降の文は、もうメチャクチャです。聞きとれる、聞きとれない以前の問題、書き起こした英文が「意味をなしていない」のですから。
shoulder ... to accept the responsibility for sth
OXFORD英英辞典に、実にいい例文が載っていました。
women who shoulder the double burden of childcare and full-time workはい。だから私、仕事やめました。
マーシャ先生の「まるごとラジオ英会話」CDブックにも、こんな英文が。
It's pretty clear that women still shoulder most of the workload at home.
んだんだ。shoulder にはもってこいの例文のようです。


★swallow your pride　　プライドを捨てる
If you swallow your pride, you hide it or get rid of it. You can use the verb "swallow" with a couple of other phrases for similar meanings. For example, if you swallow your words, you stop yourself from saying something for some reason. You can also "swallow anger" or "swallow fear," if you don't want to be reacting to those feelings.

こんな使い方もできます。
I found her excuse very hard to swallow. 《OXFORD》
飲み込むには、ちょっと喉につかえる下手な言い訳なのでしょう。
